Bridge City knows rebuilding better than almost any town in Texas. When Ike’s storm surge came through in 2008, only a handful of homes in town escaped the water — and the community rebuilt nearly everything. That means Bridge City’s concrete has an unusual profile: a whole generation of slabs, driveways, and flatwork poured in the recovery years is now 15-plus years old, alongside the older concrete that survived.
The ground didn’t change, though — low-lying clay between the Neches River and Cow Bayou that holds water and moves with the seasons. Recovery-era concrete that went in fast doesn’t always have the base and steel it should have, and we replace a fair amount of it. When we pour in Bridge City, it’s built the slow way: compacted base, reinforcement, drainage-minded grades.

A lot of recovery-era concrete went in under pressure — thin base, light steel, quick grades. On this ground that shows up as cracking and settling 10–15 years later. Replacement with proper base prep and reinforcement fixes the cause, not just the symptom.
It raises the stakes on drainage. Low-lying lots need grades that move water off the slab deliberately, and base material that stays solid when the ground is saturated. We plan both before we form anything.
