What SETX homeowners should know about concrete

Local ground truth — from a crew that pours on it daily

The ground here is named for its problems

The soil under Southeast Texas is literally called the Beaumont clay — an expansive, slow-draining clay that swells when it rains and shrinks when it dries. Every slab in the region rides that movement. It’s why concrete poured straight on unprepared ground cracks early, and why driveways and patios here live or die on what’s under them: compacted base, steel reinforcement, and joints cut where the slab wants to move.

Sixty inches of rain has to go somewhere

Beaumont averages roughly 60 inches of rain a year — among the highest in Texas — on ground that’s nearly flat and drains slowly. Water that stands against concrete softens the base under it, and that’s where slabs fail first. Good concrete work here is drainage work: grades that shed water away from the slab and your foundation, set with the forms before the truck ever arrives.

Old concrete is simply aging out

The median Beaumont home was built in 1978, and across SETX most neighborhoods went up in the 50s–70s. The original builder flatwork is now 50+ years old on soil that never stopped moving. If your driveway or walk is cracked end to end, it isn’t bad luck — it served its full life. Replacement with modern base prep and steel resets the clock for decades.

Questions, answered straight

The stuff every homeowner asks first
How much does a new concrete driveway cost?

Every driveway is different — size, tear-out, and site prep drive the price. That's why the estimate is free and done in person: we measure, talk through options, and hand you a straight number with no obligation.

How long does the work take?

Most residential jobs — tear-out, forming, pour, and finish — wrap in 2–4 working days, weather permitting. We schedule a firm start date and keep it.

When can I park on my new driveway?

Stay off it for 7 days. Concrete keeps curing for weeks, but after a week it's ready for your vehicles. We'll walk you through care for the first month.

Do you haul off the old concrete?

Yes — demolition and haul-off are part of the job. We tear out the old slab, load it, and leave the site clean and formed up for the new pour.

What areas do you serve?

Beaumont and the whole Golden Triangle — Port Arthur, Nederland, Port Neches, Groves, Bridge City, Orange, Vidor, Lumberton, Sour Lake, Fannett, Hamshire, La Belle, and Cheek.

Who does the work?

Every project is performed by the established Southeast Texas concrete crew we partner with on all our jobs — the same crew behind everything in our project gallery. You get one point of contact and proven work.

Why does concrete crack so fast in Southeast Texas?

The expansive Beaumont clay under this whole region swells when wet and shrinks when dry, moving every slab on it — and we get about 60 inches of rain a year to drive that cycle. Concrete built for this ground (compacted base, steel, proper joints, drainage) lasts decades; concrete poured straight on the clay doesn’t.

Does flooding around here affect new concrete?

The flood itself rarely hurts cured concrete — the danger is water standing against a slab and softening the base under it. We set grades so storm water sheds away from your concrete and your foundation, which matters everywhere from Beaumont to the towns that took the worst of Harvey and Imelda.
